Due to continued flooding in parts of Somerset County, its public schools will be closed Monday, Nov. 1, for students and teachers.
Essential and 1-month employees should report on time, or when it is safe to do so, according to an email from the school district.
Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency Friday for areas along the Chesapeake Bay, Potomac River and Atlantic coast at risk of severe tidal and coastal flooding.
A coastal flood warning for Dorchester, Somerset and Wicomico counties was in effect until 5 a.m. Sunday, with “one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.”
Somerset County Emergency Services posted to social media Saturday morning that there have been reports of damage throughout the county because of flooding.
Officials are urging residents to report damage to Somerset County Emergency Management by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling and leaving a message at 410-651-3457.
