Scotland To Be Battered With Rain As Weather And Flood Warnings Issued

Date: 2021-09-27 06:56:15

Scotland’s weather forecast is not looking positive at the start of the week, with weather warnings issued and fears there may also be flooding.

After a bright Sunday, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain in the north east of Scotland as downpours batter the country.

The weather warning affects parts of Aberdeen and Inverness and is in place until around 12pm on Monday.

Forecasters have warned the heavy rain may lead to some disruption on Monday morning, including spray flooding on the roads and delays to transport.

Flooding of a few homes and businesses is also ‘likely’, the Met Office told Scots.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) also has amber flood warnings in place across Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City, as well as Findhorn, Nairn, Moray and Speyside.

Elsewhere, there are signs commuters could be facing travel chaos as the rain continues to hammer the country – potentially causing delays on the roads and to trains.

Network rail warned passengers: “We’re due extremely heavy rain and high winds in many areas this morning.

“To help deal with any issues that arise, we have more staff on duty with specialist kit to deal with any problems.”

Traffic Scotland has also cautioned drivers over surface spray on the busy roads this morning.

The M8 Eastbound entry slip road was closed for a period on Monday morning at J20 West Street. The road has now reopened.

The Met Office issued this weather forecast: “Monday will be wet and windy across Scotland, with coastal gales at times.

“Though it will be feeling cooler as of late, back to tonight a band of cloud and rain will push eastwards with some heavy bursts of rain at times.
