A flood watch warning has been issued for the Werribee River catchment with widespread rainfall expected Thursday and Friday.
The State Emergency Service is warning that minor flooding is possible from Thursday evening in the catchments of the flood watch area.
The warning comes as a low pressure system and an associated trough slowly moves over Victoria on Thursday and Friday, before moving away to the east of Tasmania early on Saturday morning.
Catchments in the flood watch area are already moderately wet, adding to the risk of rising water levels.
Widespread rainfall totals of 15 to 30 mm are expected in the watch area for the remainder of Thursday, with isolated heavier falls of 30 to 50 mm possible with thunderstorms.
Further rainfall totals of 10 to 15 mm are forecast for Friday, with isolated heavier falls up to 30-50 mm.
River rises have been observed in the flood watch catchments from Wednesday.
Minor flooding is possible from Thursday evening at some locations.
People are being urged to stay informed, monitor local conditions and remain alert.
