A major flood warning has been issued for the Mary River, as major flooding persists at Miva and Tiaro and moderate floods set to peak at Dagun Pocket and Gympie.

Gympie /Regional Council has just issued a warning to residents of Gympie’s western areas, advising that floods are impacting residents around Goomeri, Kilkivan and Tiaro.

The major flood warning, issued at 2pm, says floodwaters are now threatening Maryborough.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued the warning after heavy rainfall was recorded in the Mary River catchment area, with some areas noting rainfall totals in excess of 300 mm (with localised heavy falls in excess of 500-600 mm) particularly in central parts of the catchment, recorded to 9am Saturday morning. This is in addition to heavy rainfall that was observed in the catchment area on Thursday evening and overnight.

This rainfall has led to rapid river level rises across parts of the Mary River catchment.
