The finish line is in sight for stage one of the redevelopment of the Goulburn Aquatic and Leisure Centre. The official opening is scheduled for March 25, but the public were able to have a look at the progress made on Saturday, December 11. The new centre includes four new pools, a climate controlled gym and yoga room, new changerooms, outdoor showers, a seating and grass area to let people sit and relax and a cafe. READ ALSO: The four pools are a 25m by 22m eight lane pool, a 15m by 10m therapy pool for rehabilitation, a 20m by 12m learn to swim pool and a 12m by 7m splash pad and leisure pool area. Entry to the cafe and the centre is available from both the main entrance and via the Adventure Playground in Victoria Park by using the stairs or lift. There will also be a 200kW roof top solar system which is estimated to offset approximately 248 tonnes of C02 emissions per year as well as two carparks which contains approximately 100 spots. From now until the opening, workers from FDC Consulting Pty Ltd still have to install epoxy floors, fill the pools with water which will take a month, and tile the changerooms. FDC site manager Shane Pearce said the centre could have been completed earlier if it wasn’t for COVID-19. “The pandemic gave us problems when it came to dealing with trades from Canberra and Sydney,” Mr Pearce said. “We were affected twice because of the Sydney and Canberra lockdown.” The cost of the centre was $30 million in total, with the NSW government office of sport chipping in with a third of the cost and Goulburn Mulwaree Council paying the rest. It will cost adults $6 to swim or $33 per fortnight for a gym and aquatic membership and $4.50 for children to swim or $27.50 per fortnight for a membership. Stage two will include the installation of a new 50m pool, a new plant room and an outdoor splash pad.
