FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Florida man is accused of biting off part of a security guard’s finger after instigating a fight at a hospital, authorities said.
On Monday, Metoyer was being treated by a nurse at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, the Miami Herald reported.
According to a Facebook video post by the sheriff’s office, Metoyer became “unruly” and the nurse called for security, Sheriff Carmine Marceno said.
According to Marceno, Metoyer head-butted one security guard and bit the other guard’s middle finger when he attempted to restrain him.
“Here we are, you have someone who is trying to render aid, trying to help a person, and this person has no regard for their safety or their life,” Marceno said on the video.
Investigators did not say what caused Metoyer to become erratic during his treatment, or why he was admitted to the hospital, the Herald reported.
The nurse was not injured, according to the newspaper.
Metoyer was released Tuesday after posting $5,000 bail, according to online booking records. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 14.
“This finger-biting felon bit off more than he can chew and he’s getting a taste of justice,” Marceno said on the Facebook video.
