Initial Minor Flood Warning For The Thomson River
Issued at 06:14 PM EDT on Friday 12 November 2021

MINOR FLOODING MAY OCCUR AROUND COWWARR WEIR AND WANDOCKA OVERNIGHT FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY
In the 24 hours to 6pm Friday, rainfall totals of 30-50 mm of rainfall have been recorded in the Thomson River catchment. A further 20-50 mm are forecast for the remainder of Friday and into Saturday. This rainfall has caused stream rises, and may lead to minor flooding developing overnight Friday into Saturday along the Thomson River.

Thomson River to Cowwarr Weir:
Minor flooding may occur along the Thomson River to Cowwarr Weir.
The Thomson River at Cooper Ck is currently at 0.53 metres and steady.
The Thomson River at Cooper Ck may exceed the minor flood level (2.30 m) overnight Friday into Saturday. A minor flood peak may occur Saturday morning.

The Thomson River U/S Cowwarr Weir is currently at 2.92 metres and rising.
The Thomson River U/S Cowwarr Weir may exceed the minor flood level (3.70 m) overnight Friday into Saturday. A minor flood peak may occur Saturday morning.

Thomson River Cowwarr Weir to Wandocka:
Minor flooding may occur along the Thomson River Cowwarr Weir to Wandocka.
The Thomson River at Wandocka is currently at 1.47 metres and steady.
The Thomson River at Wandocka may exceed the minor flood level (6.20 m) early Saturday morning. A minor flood peak may occur Saturday morning.

Flood Safety Advice:
SES advises that all community members should:
Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
Never allow children to play in floodwater,
Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain,
Keep well clear of fallen power lines
Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.}
