Residents of Mount Vernon, Washington, had a flood wall to thank for protecting them against a surging Skagit River on November 16, as nearby areas were deluged by rising water. Video taken by Jacqueline Allison shows the riverwalk in downtown Mount Vernon on Tuesday morning. A hastily constructed flood wall helped Mount Vernon avoid major flooding, as the Skagit River crested at a near-record 36.98 feet on Tuesday morning, the Seattle Times reported. A flood warning was in effect for areas near the river through November 19, the National Weather Service said. Credit: Jacqueline Allison/Skagit Valley Herald via Storyful
