Date: 2021-11-10 03:59:54

PEORIA (25 NEWS) – The Peoria City Council voted 9-2 to eliminate the Public Safety Pension fee.

That fee was originally voted on in 2018 and was to last for 3 years from 2019-2021.

The fee was assessed to Peoria property owners and ranged from $12 to $300 depending on the size of the property.

All money collected over the 3 year period went to Peoria Fire and Police Pension obligations.

The only two council members to vote in favor of keeping the fee on taxpayers were Chuck Grayeb (District 2) and Denise Jackson (District 1).

The public safety pension fee will no longer be collected after 2021.
