Canberrans are advised to put their cars under cover, as the Bureau of Meteorology issues a severe thunderstorm warning for the ACT. Heavy rainfall, large hailstones and damaging winds are forecast for the ACT and parts of the Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains. “Thunderstorms have developed in warm humid and unstable conditions over the Snowy Mountains,” the bureau said. “Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, large hailstones and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Mount Ginini, Tidbinbilla, Jindabyne, Bredbo and Adaminaby.” The ACT Emergency Services advises Canberrans to put cars under cover, secure loose items around the house and stay at least eight metres away from power lines.
